It is always good to reflect on the events of a big racing day and take away a few tidbits of knowledge for future use. Here’s my list:
1. Trappe Shot could be better than D’Funnybone.
2. Barbados shippers dropping back in distance make excellent bets.
3. Never underestimate the power of Medaglia d’Oro.
4. Gio Ponti needs some luck…and maybe a new rider.
5. Winchester still has it.
6. When a jockey tells you his horse doesn’t have a chance, he will prove himself right.
7. Weight doesn’t mean much in American racing. (Unless you don’t carry it.)
8. Even Nick Zito can be rendered speechless.
9. The race is not always to the swift. (But sometimes goes to the one who lasts the longest.)
10. Stately Victor is a grass horse.
11. Interactif was very good at two and very average at three.
12. Sarah Palin and the First Dude are great show bets.
