4th) GUIDING FORCE showed a little speed and managed a third-place finish in her Kentucky Downs debut. The daughter of excellent Poly sire Pulpit should benefit by that experience and conditioning as most in this field are first-time starters asked to run on the grueling Beard Course.
5th) Earlier this meeting, BANNED was left on the also-eligible list in a stakes race he probably would have won. This is a soft spot for the Glen Hill Farm colorbearer, who won his second start at Belmont Park and worked an excellent five-eighths at Keeneland on Monday.
7th) GOLD COLLECTION stumbled at the start and was forced to race three wide in her latest trip to the post. The daughter of Seeking the Gold still managed to run a solid second, beaten only a neck. Trained by Hall of Famer Billy Mott, she gets the services of leading rider Julien Leparoux and that could spell victory.
8th) Jockey Cornelio Velasquez had EN FUEGO three wide on both turns in his last start at the Spa. Any handicapper worth their salt will tell you that is certain failure in a turf race. Drawn down on the rail today, with excellent turf jockey Freddie Lenclud in the saddle, the Christophe Clement trainee should get a much better trip. A gelding with an outstanding pedigree and the ability to get the marathon distance, a big effort from the handsome grey can be expected.
